Govt. Danteshwari Mahila Mahavidyalaya was established in the year 1972 by Bastar shiksha samiti as a private college of central Bastar of Bastar commissionary. The college was started initially as co-education college. To encourage the woman education in Bastar region. The college converted as a women college in 1978 with the permission of higher education commissioner Govt. of M.P. and Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University Raipur.
This was the first and only women college in the Bastar commissionary. To provide quality education and enhance women education, the college had been taken over by the Govt. of M.P. on 1st October 1982.
The college has been recognized under UGC Act of 1956, 2(F) and 12(B) since 07th February 1992. With the establishment of Bastar University from 2008 college affiliated under Bastar University.College was started with basic subjects of arts in degree classes e.g. Hindi Literature and Hindi Language, English Language, Political Science, Social Science, Economics, Ancient Indian History, Anthropology and Home Science. At the sametime B.H.Sc also started.
Now today college has PG courses in five subjects — Political Science, Ancient Indian History, Anthropology, and Home Science. Under the self finance scheme new courses B.Com and PGDCA, has been started.
The college is situated at the heart of the Jagdalpur city, near collectorate & Indira priydarshani stadium. It is situated in a huge campus of 4.15 acres. The college has own building, appropriate class rooms, toilet facilities, staffroom, girls common room, practical Lab, computer Lab, Vehicle stand, NSS room and Library. There are more than 500 students are enrolled in this college. The college has enough facilities for games namely Indoor badminton court, a basketball court, table tennis etc.
The college publishes its annual college magazine, students and faculty members contribute their articles, to the magazine enthusiastically. The college magazine is printed under the supervision of the college editorial board.
